Singh-Allen collects large donation from big-business interest group in Elk Grove mayoral reelection bid

Even though she faces two challengers who are not raising campaign contributions, never let it be said that Bobbie Singh-Allen met campaign contributions that she would not accept.

Yesterday, the two-term Elk Grove mayor accepted a substantial contribution from an influential Sacramento business group. The Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce's political action committee gave Singh-Allen $5,500

Among its various activities, the SMCC organized the annual Cap-to-Cap lobbying and political junket event, which involves elected officials and public agency executives traveling to Washington, D.C., at taxpayers' expense.

Singh-Allen political protege and Elk Grove City Councilmember Rod Brewer outlined an example of the lobbying efforts. During a city council meeting, Brewer said he was part of a team advocating for regulatory relief from agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency during their 2023 visit (see video below).

Regulatory relief, especially to groups like the EPA, is politicians-speak for weakening air and water quality protections.

Interestingly, last week, Singh-Allen accepted a $2,500 donation from R. J. Reynolds, a major player in the detested tobacco industry. Singh-Allen is a lobbyist for gasoline and convenience store trade associations that historically resisted laws to curb youth tobacco use.

The two recent contributions pushed Singh-Allen's campaign fund to just under $275,000.
