Elk Grove Police identify, locate motorist who allegedly flees fatal pedestrian hit and run accident


UPDATED 8 a.m October 36 | 

Aided by a witness who followed a motorist, Elk Grove Police identified a person who fled a fatal hit-and-run accident.
    

According to Elk Grove Police reports officers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision near the intersection of West Stockton Boulevard and Whitelock Parkway yesterday shortly after 10 p.m. Responding officers located a man who had sustained critical injuries in the crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle traveling northbound on West Stockton Boulevard struck the pedestrian, a 55-year-old man, who was also walking northbound in the northbound lane.
 
The driver of the vehicle that hit the victim left the scene but was followed by a witness and subsequently pulled over a short distance away. Approximately 30 minutes later, the driver returned to the scene, where they remained and fully cooperated with the investigation.
 
Unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will make identification of the deceased.

The police have not reported if the motorist who allegedly fled was arrested or cited.   

UPDATE: The Sacramento County Cororner has identified the victim as Tong Chang, 55, of Sacramento
