The tight Galt City Council race is a reminder of why every vote matters

As is usually the case in Sacramento County and other jurisdictions nationally, some elections are decided by a handful of votes. In Sacramento County, the Galt City Council has one such contest.
There are three candidates for two open seats on the Galt City Council, where representatives are elected on an at-large basis. The front runner by a wide margin is Tim Reed, who has 43 percent with 5,823 votes.
The race between the other two candidates for the second seat is much closer. In fact, with tallies from Sacramento County on November 26, only two votes separate them.
Bonnie Rodriguez, with 3,855 votes, is in second place, and Matthew Pratton is third with 3,853. With Galt's factional share of the 8,624 uncounted votes countywide, the winner of this second position could be decided by a handful of votes.
While the separation of votes in national or larger-scale elections might be an abstraction, in the end, every vote matters - just ask Al Gore!
