Beginning this week, the Elk Grove Special Waste Collection Center will no longer accept expanded polystyrene (EPS), commonly known as Styrofoam, for recycling.
Changing state regulations have made EPS recycling increasingly challenging. Closure of the nearest EPS recycling facility in Lodi in November, an overall limited number of local recyclers, and shifting recycling markets has made the recycling of this material costly and difficult.
We encourage residents to consider products that do not include EPS packaging when they can, discard this material as trash if necessary, and to explore alternative options for EPS disposal whenever possible. Find EPS recycling facilities. |
