City of Elk Grove Update

Waste Collection Takes a Holiday

There will be no collection services on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day—your pick-up day will be shifted to the following day during these two holiday weeks.

Holiday Tree Recycling

Keep your Christmas tree out of the landfill. Recycle it curbside through January 31 for mulch and other purposes. Here’s how:

  • Remove tree from stand.
  • Remove ornaments, lights, tinsel, and metal rod supports from trees.
  • Place your tree curbside next to your organic waste cart by 6 a.m.

Have a tree that's taller than 6 feet? If so, it must be cut into sections that are less than 3 feet in length. These shorter pieces can then be placed in the organics cart along with any loose branches. Artificial, flocked, or “live” trees with root balls will not be accepted.

Survey Seeks More Community Priorities

The City is conducting a new, random, statistically valid community survey through January asking residents about potential additional Measure E priority areas that could be added to the current priority list to improve our ability to address community needs. Previously identified priorities included public safety, homelessness, emergency response, traffic and street maintenance, clean and safe public areas, youth crime prevention, and economic development. Revenues from Measure E have trended higher than anticipated, and the City is seeking resident feedback on priorities for the additional funding. The Cosumnes Community Services District also benefits from the increased revenue due to the percentage-based tax sharing agreement. This survey, conducted by the third-party vendor ZenCity, will gather feedback from a random, demographically representative subset of the Elk Grove community. Conducting the survey will provide the City Council with additional information that they can use when considering how to best enhance community services.

Support Community Members Experiencing Homelessness

Looking to make a difference? Instead of giving directly to people outdoors, help make a lasting impact by channeling your generosity through one of the City’s trusted partners working to address homelessness.

Donations made directly to unhoused individuals often result in increased waste that can be left behind in an encampment. When donations are channeled through established organizations, you’re helping deliver needed resources effectively, reducing waste and making sure your donations go further in reaching people in meaningful, sustainable ways.

If you’d like to support the year-round shelter, please contact Christion Seymour, Community Engagement Specialist at 916-903-9079 or cseymour@thegatheringinn.com to arrange your donation.

‘Tis the Season to Drive Sober

Help keep the community safe. Don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve soaked up too much holiday cheer. Driving under the influence is dangerous and illegal. California's DUI laws prohibit motorists from driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol or with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08% or more. A person is considered "under the influence" if substantially affected by drugs, alcohol, or a combination of the two. A DUI conviction will stay on your record and count as a prior for ten years. First time convictions can result in up to 6 months in jail, fines up to $1000, and a 6-month driver’s license suspension.

If you see someone else behind the wheel who shouldn’t be, report impaired drivers by calling (916) 714-5111 (emergency line) or 911.
