Overhaul of Elk Grove's Arts Commission to be made this week by mayor, city council

When Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen convenes her four city councilmen on Wednesday night for their last meeting of 2024, the Elk Grove Arts Commission will be overhauled.

Ms. Singh-Allen came up with the idea for the overhaul during the November 13 Elk Grove City Council meeting. She said she got the idea after speaking to a vendor at a League of California Cities conference

According to the staff report, two commissioners were appointed in 2015, and one each in 2007, 2003, and 2002. Along with members of other city committees and commissions, the five art commissioners will need to reapply this month if they seek another one-year term.

Singh-Allen specifically suggested changing the commission's role to incorporate the creative economy as an economic development tool and renaming it the Arts and Creative Economy Commission. Watch the video to see the mayor's discussion of the overhaul at the last city council meeting.
