So a group of 10 or so predetermined people got together to determine the name for the planned new zoo here in Elk Grove. They come up with a name, Councilman Suen doesn't like the name, convinces the mayor that more time should be spent in this determination, so the mayor will reconvene the same 10 or so people to come up with a potentially better name? They admittedly already pent hours working out a consensus on the previous name. I guess the mayor never considered offering the public, the taxpayers who will ultimately pay for this $1B zoo should it be completely built out as planned, an opportunity to offer their input. This makes sense since the mayor and the council committed this $1B of our tax money for coming generations to pay for this zoo without ever considering whether the citizens even wanted to spend that kind of money to fund a zoo in the first place. Citizens never got to vote on this. She obviously knows better than everyone in our city what's best for Elk Grove, despite being swayed by a single councilman in less than five minutes of discussion.
Welcome to Hooterville!
