51 suspected fentanyl dealers arrested in 'Operation Folsom Blues 2.0' sting

A regional sting operation led by Folsom Police and the Sacramento County District Attorney's office resulted in the arrest of 51 people suspected of felony drug distribution.

Dubbed "Operation: Folsom Blues 2.0," a regionally coordinated sting operation targeted fentanyl/ narcotic dealers utilizing online marketplaces and social media applications to sell these illicit drugs. Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho and Folsom Police Chief Rick Hillman announced the arrests.

The regionally coordinated operation targeted fentanyl/narcotic dealers utilizing online marketplaces and social media applications to sell these illicit drugs. On February 27 and 28, law enforcement agencies used undercover accounts to arrange narcotic transactions at specific locations in Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, and Yolo counties.

According to information released by the district attorney's office, drug dealers who arrived at meeting locations were taken into custody and charged with sales of narcotics in their respective jurisdictions. All arrestees received the Watson advisement, which is an advisement that selling fentanyl is extremely dangerous to human life and might lead to a charge of murder if someone is killed as a result.

Close to 200 law enforcement members, including the Elk Grove Police Department, participated in the effort. Officers from the California Highway Patrol, California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation Special Services Unit, DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency), Homeland Security Investigations, US Postal Inspection, and El Dorado County and County district attorney offices also participated.

The Folsom Police Department served as the command center. The names of the suspects taken into custody were not released.
