On Tuesday, May 20, Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen sat for a five-minute infotainment interview on Sacramento's KTXL morning news program (see video below). Among the topics discussed was the mayor's promise of additional venues in Old Town- Historic Downtown Elk Grove.

Twice during the session, the mayor promised to expand the long-beleaguered district's dining and drink options.

When asked if the mayor was trying to attract a younger crowd into the historic district, Singh-Allen said it was part of an ongoing revitalization program.

"So this is part of our Old Town historic district revitalization effort over the last several years," the mayor said. "So you've seen that with the new Old Town Plaza, we have, you know, breweries going in, new restaurants."

She added, "So this part of those efforts to bring new life, new energy to the historic part of Elk Grove, and that, of course, includes new breweries and bars and restaurants."

As a commissioner of Visit California, Singh-Allen has tirelessly promoted Old Town-Historic Downtown Elk Grove, which she claims could become Northern California's equivalent to San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter.

Singh-Allen's promise of new breweries in Old Town could suggest that another brewer could take over the operations of the recently shuttered Coatza Brewery. Interestingly, Coatza took over the operation of a previously failed Old Town brewery, Hungry Pecker.

Along with discussing the new breweries, bars, and restaurants coming to Old Town, the session also covered the collapse of the $300 million Sacramento Zoo relocation project, the stalled Project Elevate, and new affordable housing apartment complexes being developed under state mandates.

The entire five-minute interview can be viewed here.
