In Elk Grove's 25 years, only one person has served as a city council member while being an active-duty member of the U.S. Armed Services. That council member is District 4 representative Sergio Robles.
On Saturday, Robles posted the following comment on social media regarding the Los Angeles protest that has erupted as a result of ICE deportation raids and President Donald Trump taking control of the California National Guard.

When he was elected to the Elk Grove City Council in 2022, Robles was an enlisted member of the National Guard. Robles also self-identifies as a first-generation immigrant.
Commenting on Vice Mayor Robles' post were Elk Grove City Councilman Rob Brewer and Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen's political ally and longtime supporter, Randy Bekker, who blamed the immigration problems on former President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.
In his post, among other things, Mr. Bekker said, "It is messy, and the election was clear to send them back. There is no injustice to remove people who don't belong here." Brewer, Robles and Singh-Allen are all Democratic party members.
Bekker's comments elicited responses opposing his opinion and supporting the Vice Mayor. One person supporting the Vice Mayor replied to Bekker's saying, "Not one fact was stated in this word vomit of a "response." You feed off of propaganda like it was your only source of sustenance. Please get educated with facts."
President Trump reportedly has called up 2,000 additonal National Guards, Robles has not posted anything as of this afternoon if he has been called to active duty.
