On this day in 1776, in Philadelphia, after meeting for several days, a group of men signed the Declaration of Independence, marking the birth of the United States of America.

Composed by Thomas Jefferson, the person who would become the third President of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, which claimed independence from the English throne, included the now-famous line "Pursuit of Happiness."

Some of the language in the Declaration is dated and no longer reflective of modern morals. Of greater significance, it led to the Constitution and our continuing pursuit of a More Perfect Union.

To celebrate the 249th anniversary of the signing of the groundbreaking document, a group of 12 demographically and geographically diverse American women offers this reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Produced by Ms. Suzanne Gougherty & Ms. Kathleen Lee

Very interesting. It's been years since I've actually heard or read the Declaration. During this exercise two points became devastatingly obvious. 1) That the 12 readers were all women. Women who have had their guaranteed "inalienable rights" abused and taken from them by the same government; 2) That so many of the justifications for this Declaration were based on harsh and tyrannical policies of the King of Great Britain and that today many of the same or similar policies are currently being demanded or implemented by our current president. The people need to take their government back and not allow the great ideals published in this sacred document to be pushed asunder for the benefit of a perceived king.

Word on the street is that the liberals, in protest of Kamala losing the election, are going to donate their new $6,000 social security tax deduction, increased $8,000 standard deduction ($16,000 if filing jointly), and additional $4,000 standard deduction if over 65, to those poor Medicaid recipients who will now have to pay $30/mo for health care and work part time or do public service part time if able bodied aged 64 and under!

Wow, DJ, won't all those deductions defund our under-funded social security even faster than expected under the Biden administration? Hopefully, certainly, all those wealthy billionaires will bail out the program and fully fund it in the next three years for the benefit of the entire country. Right? And certainly health care costs for those needy kids and seniors having their Medicare benefits taken away indiscriminately won't exceed the $30 you mention over the next few years. I hope you're right, DJ, but I wouldn't bet on it.
