Even though he was unchallenged in 2024 and has three more years until his next election for the District 1 Elk Grove City Council seat, Darren Suen's campaign fundraising continues unabated.
Financial disclosures on his California Form 460, filed on Friday, show that Suen raised $30,450 for the six months ending June 30. With his recent fundraising efforts, Suen has now amassed a campaign war chest of $182,103.
Among Mr. Suen's significant contributors were the following:
- California Real Estate PAC, Calif. Associations of Realtors - $2,500
- Committee for Home Ownership, North State Building Industry Association - $500
- Sally Guttridge - $500
- Kjeldsen, Sinnock & Nuedeck - $3,000
- Peter Lee, President Covered California - $500
- Felipe Martin, President, Martin Brothers Construction - $2,500
- Mikey Hothi for Lodi City Council - $200
- Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 447 - $5,900
- Sacramento Area Fire Fighters Local 522 - $5,900
- Sacramento Building Trades Council - $500
Mr. Suen has been one of the local polticians rumored to be interested in challenging fellow Democrat, California District 10 Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen. Suen was employed for nine months as Nguyen's Chief of Staff but was separated from that job about two years ago.
One of the new contributors to Suen is Stockton, Calif.-based Kjeldsen, Sinnock & Nuedeck. According to their website, the organization "specializes in the planning, design, and surveying for various civil engineering projects such as flood control, water utilities, water resources, emergency response, environmental restoration, and various services for transportation and institutional related projects. KSN has the expertise and capability to handle all phases of project development from initial planning and design, construction management, and beyond to supporting maintenance and operation of the completed project."
Since his separation from Assemblymember Nguyen, Suen was hired as the executive director of the San Joaquin Area Flood Control Agency. Among the significant projects by Kjelden, Sinnock & Nuedck was the San Joaquin Area Flood Controls Agency's flood closure device for the Smith Canal in Stockton.
Another new contributor to Suen is Lodi (Calif.) City Councilmember Mikey Hothi. Independent of his city council duties, Mr. Hothi represents the project proponents of the controversial Summer Villas project in Elk Grove's rural area.
No hearing dates have been set for the Summer Villas project before the Elk Grove Planning Commission. The planning commission will hear the Summer Villas project before it is presented to the Elk Grove City Council.
