At 4:37 a.m. today the Elk Grove Police Department responded to a call of a single vehicle collision on Power Inn Road South of Blue Maiden.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a red BMW travelling south bound on Power Inn lost control and crossed the median. The vehicle collided with a tree and light pole, coming to rest on its roof. An unidentified male was found deceased in the back seat of the vehicle.

The female driver and a female passenger were able to exit the vehicle and left the scene before officers arrived. They were both located leaving the scene and detained by officers.

The subsequent investigation revealed that the driver, 20-year-old Heile Gantan of Elk Grove, had objective symptoms of impairment and was determined to be operating the vehicle while under the influence.

Gantan was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of Vehicular Manslaughter, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, and Leaving the Scene of a Collision.
