California Northstate University's (CNU) President Alvin Cheung announced today that it has received an accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.

The Elk Grove-based medical school relocated from Rancho Cordova in 2014 also operates the CNU Pharmacy School. That school graduated its first class of 98 students last month.

With its new accreditation, CNU is only the fifth private university in the State of California to operate both a pharmacy school and medical school under one roof.  Medical school enrollment is expected to include up to 40 students in the first year and 160 students within four years.

Medical classes are expected to start this September.

Ok, I've been a rather critical poster on this site for several recent council shortcomings, at least that's how I saw them.

But, I must say this accreditation is probably the single most impressive accomplishment that city has seen since it's inception. This is a wonderful asset to our city.

My hat's off to all of those responsible for bringing the med and pharmacy schools here. We finally truly have created something to be proud of.

Let's not rest on our laurels, let's use this as a springboard to keep the ball rolling in making EG a regional health care mecca.

Yes, let's keep the ball rolling. Would be nice if we could see Dignity move their start date up some.
