October 27, 2016 |

Elk Grove Unified School District Trustee Nancy Chaires Espinoza announced that she has received the endorsement of the State of California State Superintendent of Education Tom Torlakson, and former State Superintendent of Education Jack O'Connell.

Chaires Espinoza, who currently serves as the District's Area 6 representative, is seeking a four year term to the Board of Trustees.

"I am pleased to endorse Nancy Chaires Espinoza for re-election. Nancy's knowledge, leadership and dedication played a vital role in reforming California's Migrant Education Program ensuring that we provided much-needed services and didn't lose millions of dollars in federal funding," Torlakson said. "Nancy has the passion and the experience needed to ensure that our kids continue to receive the education they need to succeed in the 21st-century economy."

Torlakson joins several other Elk Grove and Sacramento-area elected officials including four fellow EGUSD Trustees in endorsing Chaires Espinoza who is being challenged by Marlon Hill.

"I have a great deal of respect for both Jack O'Connell and current State Superintendent Tom Torlakson," Chaires Espinoza said. "I've been privileged to work alongside them to ensure educational programs are well funded and in advocating to also ensure that our children are well prepared for the future."
