An Elk Grove man who was credited with preventing a mid-air calamity over the Pacific Ocean was recognized by the Elk Grove City Council tonight.

Elk Grove resident Shannon Horn and his new wife Anna Rodriguez-Horn were on a 15-hour Air Canada flight from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Brisbane, Australia with a commotion broke out. The male passenger was acting erratically and fought with several flight attendants.

As the passenger attempted to open an emergency door ten minutes before the conclusion of the flight, Horn tackled the man who was ultimately restrained. Horn and his Anna were enroute to their honeymoon was dubbed the "Honeymoon Hero" by Australian Press.

At tonight's ceremony Horn was presented a Certificate of Appreciation by Council Member Pat Hume who praised his quick and thoughtful actions.

"I would like to thank the City of Elk Grove," Horn said. "Hopefully others can do the same when they are put in that situation."
