At today's fourth annual world pumpkin pie eating contest held at Elk Grove Regional Park, Geoffrey Esper managed to inhale more than 15 pounds to be crowned this year's champion.

Before a capacity audience at the park's main stage on Strauss Island, the pie eating contest highlighted this weekend's Giant Pumpkin Festival sponsored by the Cosumnes Community Services District. The Major League Eating sanctioned event attracted competitors in both the professional and amateurs categories.

With his first place victory, Esper earned $2,500 of the $5,000 purse. In the amateur community competition, Elk Grove Police crime prevention officer Kristina Ramirez consumed just under four pounds of pumpkin pie to earn a $350 donation to End of Watch charity.

As in past competitions, the pumpkin pies were supplied by Elk Grove-based Sinful Treats
