Adult themed-gift for your Valentine? Survey says many open to the risqué gift

Anyone who has labored over the idea of what to give your significant other for Valentines Day and is willing to push the envelope, so to speak, might want to take into consideration a survey conducted by an Ontario, California-based adult novelty manufacturer.

The survey conducted for CalExotics found that 88-percent of people were receptive to the idea of receiving a sex toy from their romantic partner. The vast majority reportedly said they would be "thrilled" or "intrigued" yet only 29-percent have ever received such a gift.

"These survey results are fascinating because they tell two very insightful stories. The first is that the overall stigma surrounding sex toys is diminishing, with nearly 90 percent of people saying they'd be open to receiving a sex toy as a gift," CalExotics spokesperson Nichole Grossmann said. "This number is a massive 'win' in terms of sex positivity and the acknowledgment that sexual pleasure is, indeed, a gift. The second tells a different tale."

The survey also found that only 12-percent of respondents would be worried or upset if they were to receive a sex toy gift. Among age groups, 43-percent of 30-44 years old were found to have given a sex toy gift. Additionally, women were more receptive to receiving a sex toy gift from a non-romantic friend than men.

"As someone who has been in the adult novelty business for over 35 years, it has been incredible to see how people's perceptions of sex toys have evolved over time," Susan Colvin, CEO of CalExotics said. "These numbers were much different two decades ago, but pleasure isn't something to be embarrassed about. Pleasure is something to be accepted, celebrated, and yes, even gifted sometimes."

California Exotic Novelties is the only women-owned novelty company and is the nation’s leading manufacturer of adult toys and novelties.
