Police arrest suspect in death of Elk Grove care home resident


A suspect was taken into custody today by the Elk Grove Police after the death of a man who succumbed to injuries sustained in an alleged assault by an adult care facility employee.

Elk Grove Police arrested Aaron Lewis Gacilan, 31, for the death of an 18-year old male who was a resident at the United Living Care Home on Generations Drive in Elk Grove. The male victim died on December 31.

According to investigators, the Cosumnes Community Fire Department responded to a call at the facility on December 26. The victim was found unconscious and transported Kaiser South.

Two days later, the Elk Grove Police Department was contacted regarding the incident. The victim suffered a visible injury to the head and was still unconscious.

Detectives learned the male victim was the only full-time resident at the facility. They determined that around noon on December 26 Gacilan, and the victim got into a physical altercation when Gacilan kicked the victim several times in the head.

The victim went limp but was conscious. Around 4 p.m, that same day, Gacilan checked on the victim, found the victim unconscious, and called 9-1-1.

Gacilan is in custody at the county jail on a $250,000 bail charged with involuntary manslaughter. Arraignment is on Thursday, January 16.
