With the recent passage of the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act bill, it is estimated the Sacramento County Department of Airports SCDA could receive up to $14 million a year for the next five years.

In addition, according to Sacramento County, there is an additional $5 billion for airport security grants that will be available over the next five years. The SCDA will explore eligible programs and projects that could be qualified to receive additional funding.

“SCDA is thrilled with the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act,” Cindy Nichol, Director of Airports for Sacramento County said. “As SCDA looks to adapt to the future of air travel, the financial tools provided by the infrastructure bill will be important components of our efforts to put the people at the center of every trip, every experience, every day."

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act also provides $20 billion in funding that airports can use to upgrade aging infrastructure and build needed capacity to serve recovering passenger levels. The bill also enhances low-interest financing options for airports through the Transportation and Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA).

The massive and often controversial bill was supported by all three Sacramento area Democratic Representatives Doris Matsui, Ami Bera, and John Garamendi.

In his statement on the bill Bera said "After decades of talk and no action, President Biden and Congress have delivered the American people transformational legislation that will revitalize our nation’s crumbling infrastructure and grow our economy for years to come."
