With next week's deadline approaching, the most recent boundary map for Elk Grove's Assembly District seems to be settled.

The most recent iteration released yesterday by California Citizens Redistricting Commission shows only minor changes for portions of the Assembly District currently represented by Democrat Jim Cooper. The city of Elk Grove is in the 9th District, which in its current form extends from South Sacramento south to Lodi.

The most recent maps continue to have all of Elk Grove as the southern boundaries of the 10th District. The northern portions of the district, which includes South Sacramento neighborhoods, including Meadowview, Pocket, Greenhaven, Fruitridge, Florin, and a portion of Oak Park contracted slightly south from the northern border in the December 6 map.

Cooper, who was first elected to the 9th Assembly District in 2014, is expected to formally announce his candidacy for Sacramento County Sherriff, which he ran for and lost in 2010. Among the candidates expected to announce their candidacy for the 10th Assembly position is Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen.

The current 10th District representative is Kevin McCarty who is expected to move to what will be the 7th District and seek reelection there.
