Online mapping tool provides opportunity to submit maps in Elk Grove City Council redistricting process

An online mapping program is one of the tools deployed by the Elk Grove City Clerk's office to allow residents to participate in the decennial city council redistricting process.

Unlike other jurisdictions, Elk Grove delayed the start of its redistricting process until recent weeks. By contrast, Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly, and countywide seats have been redrawn in advance of the June 7 California Primary elections.

With no elections on the June Primary, Elk Grove has until April 17 to submit its redistricting plan to the Sacramento County Voter Registration and Elections for the November General election. Along with tonight's 7 p.m. presentation during the city council meeting, below is the list of the various outreach meetings scheduled.

One way for residents to participate in the process is to use the mapping program that is available here. For example, the map displayed above was drawn using the tool.

Of note, the ideal population of each district is 44,140. In the above map, the district number aligns with the colors in the tool, not the current district numbers.
