In a shot across the bow, Sacramento County Board of Supervisor District 5 candidate Jaclyn Moreno assailed her opponent as untrustworthy and supported by an extremist group.

Moreno, a Democratic Cosumnes Community Services District Director, made the accusations against her Republican opponent, Elk Grove City Councilmember Pat Hume. The mailer appears to have been sent to Democratic voters in District 5.

While one side of the mailer notes Moreno's Sacramento Bee and Planned Parenthood endorsements and her support of Proposition 1, the other side makes accusations against Hume.

Moreno points to Folsom, Calif-based American Council's endorsement of Hume. The mailer says that the group, which is called extremist, "celebrated the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe."

The mailer also notes, with a QR code link to a video, where Hume has refused to answer a question on reproductive rights at a Women's League of Voters of Sacramento County candidate forum last month. Hume has repeatedly dodged questions on reproductive rights and his position on the January 6, 2021, Washington D.C. insurrection.

Interestingly, Elk Grove Democratic Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and Vice Mayor Darren Suen have bucked party orthodoxy and endorsed Hume.

It's not unusual for competing candidates to point out their differences on issues, and even for one to ignore a raised issue by the other candidate. Time to move on.

Sadly, Moreno is sounding more like a one-trick pony on this abortion issue. Even the top-level Democratic strategists are warning that their Party is overdoing the abortion issue, and that jobs and economy are more important to the voters at this time. Seeing that California already has permissive abortion rights on the books, I wish Moreno would shift into overdrive and focus more on the regional issues facing District 5 of Sacramento County, California.

It's time for Moreno to put the pedal to the metal and stop worrying about Hume's PACs and their views on abortion.

As an activist candidate with a bull horn she doesn’t know anything else as the abortion issue is settled law here in Ca. Late to the party to show she has the ability to understand the most important issues of the majority of citizens. When you only beat the drum of a one issue band people start to tune out on the sour not.
