Eric Guerra (left) issued a concession statement today in his race against Stephanie Nguyen for California Assembly District 10. |

In an email statement issued this afternoon, Sacramento City Councilmember Eric Guerra conceded the California Assembly District 10 race to his opponent, Elk Grove City Councilmember Stephanie Nguyen.

"I've never been one to shy away from the facts, and while the votes are still being counted - it is clear we will be short of the votes necessary to win the AD-10 race," Guerra said in his statement. "Thank you for taking a chance on this campaign and your commitment to changing the course on our community's most pressing issues."

The next vote tallies will be released at 4 p.m. today. In each release since last Tuesday, Nguyen has held a 12-point lead over Guerra.

Along with thanking his supporters, Guerra, whose Sacramento City Council District is wholly contained in Assembly District 10, said he would work with Nguyen on issues affecting constituents.

Guerra, who retains his position on the Sacramento City Council, added, "I plan to continue working at City Hall, standing up for working families and a better Sacramento. There's still much to do, and I plan to keep at it."

Nguyen has not yet issued a statement.
