City of Sacramento offering free mulch to residents this weekend

Press release from the city of Sacramento

City staff will be giving away free mulch to Sacramento residents during a “Mulch Mayhem” event on May 4 at the Sacramento Marina (2710 Ramp Way).

There will be a limit of one cubic yard of arbor mulch per customer.

“Putting mulch around your plants and trees can help save water by slowing down evaporation and moderating soil temperature,” said the City’s water conservation coordinator William Granger. “It also enriches the soil with essential nutrients and acts as a natural barrier to help control weeds.”

The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon or while supplies last.

Attendees can also get free bagged and loose compost, which can improve soil health by providing nutrients and helping retain water.

“Residents are encouraged to bring a truck if they can, along with a shovel and tarp,” Granger said.
