The money needed to run for public office continues to be amazing and bewildering. A run for a seat on the Elk Grove City Council is no exception.

As reported recently in the Elk Grove Citizen, incumbent Sophia Scherman has raised aprox. $88,000 in her quest for a third term on the city council.

Put another way, if Scherman gathers the same whopping 33% of the vote she did last time out, or about 12,000 votes city-wide, she is prepared to spend about $7.33 per vote!

By comparison, according to the same story her opponent, Katherine Maestas has raised $1,000.

Obviously Maestas will raise a respectable amount in the coming months, but will she be able to catch the Scherman money-printing machine?

If she doesn't, I might suggest a durable pair of walking shoes. Who knows, maybe the personal touch will pay off.
