Lest it be said that ElkGroveNews.net reports only doom and gloom, here is something that is a flicker of good news for Elk Grove.
The new Nugget Market on Elk Grove Blvd. is moving along nicely. The market will occupy the space that formerly housed Ralph's on the corner of Bruceville.
Given the weak commercial/retail real estate market, this addition is most welcomed. Nothing says and advances blight more than having an empty anchor space at a retail strip center.
Even better is that Nugget is rated as one of the top 100 employers nationally. In the 2008 rating published by Fortune, Nugget came in at a very strong 12.

According to the ranking, a checker makes an average $33,338 annually - excellent pay for a retail job.
While Elk Grove does have a disproportionally high number of retails jobs, at least these jobs provide employees with a decent wage and benefits.
