After a closed special session, the Elk Grove City Council announced tonight that it has hired a new city manager, Laura Gill.
Gill is currently the chief administrative officer for El Dorado County.
In making the announcement, Mayor Gary Davis welcomed Gill and said that her arrival is an exciting time for the city. "We're lucky to have you," Davis said.
In a brief appearance, Gill thanked the council for the opportunity and said she was looking forward to her new job. "I thank you for the opportunity to serve Elk Grove," she said.
Gill will officially start on June 16 at an annual salary of $195,000. Gill replaces Jim Estep who vacated the position to become city manager in Lincoln, Calif.
The council also announced that Susan Blackston had accepted the position of city clerk at an annual salary of $101,573. "I am really thrilled you accepted the position," council member Sophia Scherman said.
Ed. note: there were several other developments at tonight's city council meeting. Another story will be posted regarding the balance of the meeting.
