Detrick gets Republican party endorsement

Another blow to Leary's re-election bid


Elk Grove city council candidate Steve Detrick received a key endorsement yesterday from the Sacramento County Republican Central Committee. The vote was 25 to 1 in Detrick's favor.

The endorsement of Detrick was yet another stinging rebuke of two-term incumbent Mike Leary. The committee cited Leary's ethical lapses as the reason for turning their back on the party stalwart and sitting council member.

"Our primary interest is to support Republican candidates who will represent the Republican Party well and make a positive difference in the community," said Matt Hedges, chair of the Endorsement Committee of the Central Committee. "In this case, the choice was clear."

"This was a fantastic end to a great week for my campaign," said Detrick. "It is an honor to carry the Republican banner in this election."

The endorsement capped a week were Detrick received the Republican party and Elk Grove Police Officers Association endorsements over Leary, a lieutenant with the Sacramento County Sheriffs dept.
