Press release from Elk Grove Police
ELK GROVE, CA – On December 17, 2008 at 12:53 p.m., The Elk Grove Police Department responded to a collision involving a Union Pacific train and an unidentified male teenage pedestrian in the area of Elk Grove Boulevard north of First Avenue. The teenager was on the railroad tracks north of Elk Grove Boulevard when the collision took place and died as a result of his injuries.
According to witnesses, the Union Pacific train operator sounded the train’s horn and applied the brakes in order to avoid the collision. Investigators will be attempting to determine if an I-pod and ear buds found near the deceased were being used by the victim at the time of the collision.
