The recession claimed another victim in Elk Grove. This time it was The Longhorn BBQ on Elk Grove Blvd.

Last week we noticed they were closed during regular business hours and saw a sign saying they were closed for the Holidays. Since last week the owners posted a sign saying they were indeed closed for business.

As the recession lingers, we hope our readers can patronize our remaining locally owned restaurants and shops. We understand money is tight, but it is crucial that a strong base of local businesses remain here in Elk Grove.

If we don't retain some sense of local identity, Elk Grove faces the real possibility of becoming nothing more that home to national chains that would make us indistinguishable from any other suburban sprawl across the country. Times are tough, but when making purchases, try supporting our locally owned businesses.
