A large explosion left many people startled last night in Elk Grove. The explosion, which happened around 9:13, could be felt as far away as Franklin Boulevard to the west.
The explosion happened in the area south of Sheldon Road and west of Elk Grove Florin in the Camden area. Elk Grove Police fielded several calls from nearby residents who described the sound as fireworks, shotgun blast, an exploding transformer or a possible pipe bomb.
Officer arrived and inspected the suspected area of the blast and determined the explosion was probably a firework. Officer attempted to contact people of interest at a residence on Sheldon Creek Dr. but were unable to connect them to the incident.

It was comical to see everyone in the neighborhood coming running out of our houses in our PJ's to speculate and compare theories. Glad no one was hurt.

I heard it while sitting on my front porch last night, in Laguna West!
I live nearby and thought it was either fireworks, firecrackers or a gunshot. I am suprised that it was heard so far away in Laguna West. We have idoits setting off fireworks and fire crackers all the time over here. Unfortunately, sometimes we hear gunshots as well.
There was another explosion on Wednesday night at about 11:50pm. It set off a car alarm but I did not ever hear sirens or anything. Strange.
What ever it was it was very loud,
way to loud for just ordinary fireworks. We called the police seconds afterwards and where told it was just fireworks. Very strange that a officer could find where it came from that fast let alone know it was just fireworks.
It was heard clearly from our house on Lockford Ct. which is close to the intersection of Elk Grove Blvd and Waterman road. I along with others came out to the street to look around. The Sheldon area posted above is about 3.3 miles from here. I am surprised there isn't a smoking hole or something....
