In spite of the city council's efforts to soft sell, Wilton might defeat Elk Grove in expansion fight

As the controversy surrounding Elk Grove's city manager and attorney continues to simmer, the hamlet of Wilton could actually benefit.

For some time now, the Southeastern Sacramento County community of Wilton has been besieged by governmental expansion efforts from their neighbors to the east, Elk Grove. First it was the Cosumnes Community Service Districts purchase of property to the current effort by Elk Grove to expand the so-called 'Sphere if Influence' application with LAFCO.

Many people in Elk Grove and Wilton see this as nothing but a veiled attempt by Elk Grove to open precious land in the Cosumnes River basin for developers. While Elk Grove officials say their efforts are purely altruistic, many people, particularly in Wilton, are not buying it.

Wiltonites are rightfully fighting for their independence

Coincidentally, many Wilton residents attended last weeks city council meeting and appeared not to happy with what they heard regarding the SOI application. Now the good people of Wilton are letting their feelings be heard.

Tonight the following comment was posted relating to our 'Fear and Intrigue' story.
I have to admit I have read the posts and comments about Laura Gill with some considerable amusement. My own experience with Laura was when Pat Hume sent her out to Dillard School to meet with Wilton residents on Elk Grove's proposed Sphere Of Influence expansion into Wilton.

Evidently Pat and Laura thought they could charm Wilton residents with her equestrian hat and soft southern drawl. Well, SURPRISE! Wilton residents were gonna have none of that and we peppered her with pointed questions and refused to accept the nonsense answers she had been sent to peddle.

After awhile Laura became quiet and Assistant City Manager Pat Blacklock stepped in to finish off the Q&A session. Looking back on it now I realize we probably came within an eyelash of being F-bombed into the 12th century!!!!

Perhaps the silver lining to the whole imbroglio surrounding the accusations regarding Gill and Cochran will be that a few more members of the city council are voted out of office due to the political damage that seems to be building each day.

EG can't even take care of itself, why even think about Wilton. Take care of business at home first, or is this a diversion to dazzle everyone?

The city is already messed up.

Do they want to extend the ghetto further south?

Wow! Check out the Elk Grove Citizen today. Evidently Old Dad's friend Keith Gebers thinks Laura Gill is gonna get struck by lightning if she keeps firing off the F-bomb...

The EGCC's comments at their meeting the other night demonstrated that most of them are groping for reasons to include the floodplain SE of Grantline Rd in the SOI - despite all the negative comments they heard at the various listing post meetings held by their planners over the last couple of months.

Maybe the City Manager will be able to intimidate well-healed Wiltonites from dragging this out into a protracted legal battle over the adequacy of the SOI document and environmental review. While this is very unlikely, you can bet this will cost the good citizens of Elk Grove 100’s of thousands of dollars.
