Elk Grove Physician has strong second quarter

Dr. Ami Bera, candidate for California’s Third Congressional District released third quarter fundraising results today that showed the Elk Grove physician raised more than $335,000 during the second quarter ending September 30.

Combined with earlier fundraising, Bera has thus far raised over $585,000 in his bid to face incumbent Congressman Dan Lungren in next November’s mid-term election. Bera will face SMUD director Bill Slaton in the June primary. Elk Grove City Council member Gary Davis dropped out of the race last week.

“We're talking to the voters about improving our schools, making health insurance more affordable, and growing our economy to create jobs. That message is appealing to the hundreds of people who have joined our team and made our fundraising efforts so successful,” Bera said. “The diversity of our supporters is proof that our campaign has the widespread support we’ll need to return this seat to the people of the third district.”

Lungren viewed as vulnerable

One reason the race has drawn two strong potential contenders is that the Democrat Congressional Candidate Committee has targeted Lungren as one of ten vulnerable Republican incumbents for the 2010 election.

In last year’s election President Obama carried the third district while Lungren won reelection with less than 50 percent of the popular vote.
