Elk Grove Mother Arrested For Neglecting Her Children

An Elk Grove mother was arrested Saturday night on criminal child negligence charges.

According to police reports, officers responded to a call on the 9500 block of Moon River Way regarding a female who had been drinking and possibly suffering from alcohol poisoning. Upon arrival, 27-year old Sherri Aranda of Elk Grove would not permit police or emergency personnel into the house.

Once officers and paramedics gained entry, the suspect displayed signs of impairment. Based on the poor physical conditions of Aranda’s two children, a 9-year old boy and 2-year old girl, and the poor living conditions, the suspect was arrested and transferred to the county jail.

The police report did not provide specific information regarding the health or physical condtion of the two children. The children were released to a relative and a referral to CPS was completed
