Police investigating for possible link to other recent store robberies
At 11:06 a.m. today, the Elk Grove Police Department received a call regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred at Elk Grove Wine and Liquor located at 9358 Elk Grove Florin Rd. The store owner was able to provide a description of the armed suspect, along with a description and license plate number of the getaway vehicle and driver.
A records check revealed that the getaway vehicle, described as a white 1997 Lexus LS 400, had been stolen in a carjacking that had been reported to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. Responding officers saturated the area in an attempt to locate the robbery suspects and vehicle.
Officers located the unoccupied stolen vehicle in the 8700 block of Elk Grove Blvd. Witnesses provided information that the occupants of the vehicle had fled on foot, and were last seen jumping fences heading towards the area of the Elk Grove creek.
Officers established a large perimeter around the creek in an effort to locate the armed robbery suspects. Elk Grove Police K-9 units then began a systematic search of the creek area for the two suspects.
As the K-9 units were searching the creek area, one of the suspects attempted to escape the perimeter in the 9500 block of Blarney Ct. Officers were able to take the 15-year-old suspect into custody without incident.
As the K-9 units began to move their search in a westerly direction from where the first suspect was taken into custody, a neighbor alerted officers to a second suspect who had been hiding in a garbage can in her backyard.
The second 15-year-old suspect was taken into custody in the 8700 block of Bray Vista Way without incident. Witnesses have identified these two juvenile suspects as being responsible for today’s robbery at the Elk Grove Wine and Liquor store.
Detectives are now attempting to determine if the two suspects are responsible for three recent robberies in Elk Grove and surrounding areas. A loaded firearm and three Airsoft BB guns were recovered from inside the stolen vehicle.
Both suspects are being processed and will be transported to juvenile hall on robbery and weapons charges. Due to the age of the suspects, their names and booking photos will not be released.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Elk Grove Police Department Detective Bureau at (916) 478-8060.
