$750K grant will retrofit council chambers
The City of Elk Grove announced today that it has received a $750,000 grant to retrofit the city council chambers so that it can act as a regional emergency operations center.
The grant was part of the 2010 Homeland Security Appropriation bill signed by President Obama on October 28. The bill easily passed both houses of congress.
“An Emergency Operations Center has been a long standing priority for the Elk Grove City Council,” said Mayor Pat Hume. “It will be a tremendous asset to have in the South Sacramento region in the case of a natural or man-made disaster.”
The center will act as regional coordination center to coordinate emergency response along with the City and County of Sacramento, the State of California and the Homeland Security. The center will also act as the city’s response center for local emergencies.
Renovations are scheduled to start early next year.
