Former Elk Grove City Council member Michael Patrick Leary’s scheduled hearing for Thursday, November 12, 2000 was continued according to court document. The hearing was scheduled for Department 8 of the Sacramento County Superior Court.

A future hearing date not been set as of today.

Leary, a 27-year veteran with the Sacramento County Sheriffs Department is facing four felony charges revolving around his alleged attempt to bilk his former female companion, Alyc Maselli, out of her share of a property they jointly owned.

At Leary’s October 9 preliminary hearing, his attorney William J. Portanova said Macelli has a history of “making false accusations” and that she is a threat.

Leary’s arrest follows his re-election landslide defeat last fall against challenger Steve Detrick. In that election Leary was dogged by a scathing Sacramento County Grand Jury Report where he and current council member Jim Cooper were accused of being in conflict of interest with regards to the city’s contract with Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Like Leary, Cooper is a member of the sheriffs department. Leary is currently on paid-administrative leave from the sheriffs department.
