Will first term Elk Grove City Council members be challenged?
Four years ago this November, the Elk Grove City Council underwent its first major overhaul when charter members Dan Briggs and Rick Soares were voted out of office after serving for six years.
By 2006 Elk Grove voters had soured on Briggs and Soares and were replaced by current members Gary Davis and Pat Hume respectively. After having served most of their first term, both Davis and Hume are seeking their second term in office.
Looking back at their campaigns, both candidates had let their intentions known by this time four years ago. Although Briggs and Soares had become unpopular, Davis and Hume ramped up their campaigns early enough to handily win election.
Davis, who had little local name recognition at the time, officially started his campaign 14 months prior to the election by filing his Statement of Organization in September, 2005. Hume, a favorite son who was a charter planning commissioner with high name recognition, filed his statement in March 2006, a good eight months prior to the election.
With Memorial Day quickly approaching and Independence Day just around the corner, neither Davis nor Hume officially knows who will be challenging them. This begs the question of whether or not they will face challengers. Likewise, if they do face opponents what are their chances of being reelected.
While both council members have the incumbent advantage, one in particular will likely face a tough reelection bid.

With all of the shady going-ons orbiting Hume, he should definitely NOT be reelected!!!!
Interesting... I have an interest in this type of public service. I need to do some more homework.
Bummer, I'm in district 3 so I wouldn't be able to run for either council seat.
