Today is the first day of EGN's week-long Fall Fund Drive.

We come to you our loyal readers with a story from NPR's Weekend Edition about none other that California's most corrupt city (so far), Bell.

As was pointed out in the NPS story, while the LA Times revealed the story, the rampant corruption of the city was first unearthed by a local news site. Through the efforts of this site, one of the biggest local corruption cases in recent history was unearthed.
One blogger actually has anonymously and exhaustively alleged corruption in Bell for years on WatchOurCity.com. He goes by the pen name Pedro Parramo, for a character in an iconic Mexican novel. NPR agreed not to identify him because he fears personal and professional retribution.

In his few public appearances, he wears a Mexican-style wrestling mask.
Our tip of the hat, or perhaps more appropriately tip of the mask to Pedro Parramo. If not for his tenacity, the crooks in Bell might have gone on forever. He truly demonstrates the important role independent local media has in protecting the interests of taxpayers.

Which brings us to EGN. We hope you consider making a donation so that we can help offset some of the cost associated with keeping an eye on Elk Grove government.

Thank you for your consideration.
