A routine arrest for shoplifting yesterday afternoon led Elk Grove Police to the discovery of four stolen cars.
According to police reports, 24-year old Brandon Holm and 22-year old Bryan Nelson of Sacramento were both detained by loss prevention personnel at the Home Depot store on West Stockton Boulevard on suspicion of shoplifting. Responding officers determined a third suspect, 22-year old Ashley Overton of Elk Grove had drive Holm and Nelson to the store.
A search of the parking lot revealed that Overton was waiting in her car. A records search of Overton revealed that she was on a searchable probation.
A search of Overton’s vehicle revealed the discovery of reported stolen property out of Sacramento County. A records search of Holm revealed that he is on parole.
A physical search of Holm led to the discovery of 10 shaved car keys and officers obtained further information that he may have been involved in several Elk Grove and Sacramento car thefts.
Officers were able to recover three stolen vehicles in the 8600 block of Vintage Park and one on the 7500 block of Diamond Ranch Drive. Holm and Overton were arrested and transferred to the county jail while Nelson was issued a misdemeanor petty they citation and released.
