In his bid to unseat one-term incumbent Pat Hume from the Elk Grove City Council District 2 seat, challenger George Murphey snagged a major endorsement today - Hume's fellow Council Member Jim Cooper.

Cooper joins Vice Mayor Steve Detrick in endorsing Murphey over Hume.

Along with Cooper's endorsement, who is one of the highest ranking African American law enforcement officials in Sacramento County, Murphey has already received the endorsement of the Elk Grove Police Officers Association.

I'm honored to have the support of so many local people and organizations," Murphey said. "In talking with voters, it's clear our message is resonating with those who believe it's time to 'get our city back on track.'  I look forward to the coming weeks as our campaign continues to gain momentum."

Well, I guess George's "tag line", getting Elk Grove back on track, has lots of appeal since Jimmie Johnson is now using it. Guess he didn't have an idea of his own.
