Who will be mayor; who will be nixed?

Based on the results of measures presented to voters, the shape of Elk Grove politics is likely to undergo major changes over the next few years.

Voters approved Measure K saying they want a directly elected mayor and Measure M saying it should be a four year term. Companion Measure L was approved for a two year term but because M had a larger margin it will take precedent.

Interestingly Measure N, which would have increased the size of the council from five to seven district, was defeated. By virtue of having a directly elected mayor on an at-large basis and keeping the council size at five, it would appear that one of the five existing will be eliminated.

Depending on the outcome of the Jones-Cooper sheriff's race, the determination of what district will be drawn out of existence for the 2012 election should be an interesting process.
