Suspect hits Mechanics Bank on VD; uses bike as getaway
The Elk Grove Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying a suspect involved in an armed bank robbery.
On February 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., the suspect entered the Mechanics Bank at 8235 Laguna Blvd. and approached a teller. The unidentified suspect displayed a small black semi-auto handgun and demanded money. The teller complied and gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
The subject took the money then exited the bank on foot. According to a witness, the suspect rode away from the location on a bicycle westbound on Laguna Blvd.
The suspect was described as an African-American male adult, forty (40) years of age, five feet ten inches tall (5’10”), one hundred thirty to one hundred fifty pounds (130-150 lbs.). The suspect was wearing a black beanie, black jacket with gray lining, black pants and was carrying a blue day pack. The suspect also had a tattoo on the right side of his neck and was missing a lower front tooth.

Callers to Crime Alert can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00. Tips can also be sent via SMS text message by entering CRIMES (274637) on a cell phone, followed by Tip732 Detective Bureau at (agency identification number) and the message.
