Elk Grove Gears Up For Citywide Spring Cleaning Program

Is there an abandoned vehicle in your neighbor’s front yard? Junk and rubbish left at the end of your street? A vacant home with overgrown weeds?

If so, the City of Elk Grove wants to work with you.

Elk Grove’s annual citywide Spring Cleaning Program kicks off this week the city's of Code Enforcement Department and a team of volunteers are combing every street in Elk Grove to tackle blight and nuisances throughout the City. Officers will be concentrating on properties with junk and debris, high weeds, inoperable or abandoned vehicles and safety hazards.

Code enforcement officers will work proactively with the community to look for code violations, and will educate property owners about the City’s Municipal Code to encourage voluntary compliance. In all situations but safety hazards, Code Enforcement will provide residents with courtesy notices explaining the standards of the Elk Grove Municipal Code and education on how to correct the violations.

“Working together, we can address the eyesores that drag down a neighborhood’s property values, appearance and safety,” Mayor Steven Detrick said. “I encourage the community to work proactively with the City and help maintain Elk Grove’s beauty and quality of life.”

For the first time, Elk Grove Code Enforcement will be utilizing volunteers from the Elk Grove Police Department VIPS program to assist in non-enforcement activities such as shopping cart pickups and graffiti removal.
