During tomorrow night's regular meeting members of the Elk Grove City Council will review several redistricting maps and start the process that could determine each of their individual political fortunes.

Scherman gone?

As part of the decennial redistricting process, the city will redraw district boundaries for the five current districts. An added wrinkly to this process will be that the Elk Grove will go to four districts from it current five with the fifth council member be a directly elected mayor.

The redistricting process must be complete prior to the November 2012 general elections and could pit currently seated members against one another based on how districts are finally redrawn. The current residence’s of sitting council members cannot be taken into account as boundaries lines are redrawn.

Current city council member Sophia Scherman has publicly acknowledged that she believes her district will be merged with that of her political protégé and fellow council member Patrick Hume. In anticipation of being drawn out, Scherman has recently filed papers to run in the Republican primary for the state assembly.

The council will also review and possibly approve the $147.8 million budget for fiscal year 2012. Tomorrow’s regular meeting starts at 6:00 p.m.
