A vigilant witness aided police in the arrest of an Elk Grove man suspected of mugging a female victim early last night.

According to Elk Grove Police, the female victim was walking out of a local business on the 8500 block of Bond Road when she was approached by 18-year old Alton Bruner of Elk Grove. Bruner, who was on a bike, reportedly rode up to the victim and grabbed the victim’s purse from under her left arm.

The mugging victim attempted to stop the suspect, but was overpowered. A nearby witness observed the attack and called 911 then followed Bruner to a nearby residence.

Officers responded to the residence and detained the occupants until witnesses were able to positively identify the suspect. The victim’s property was recovered and Bruner was arrested and transferred to the county jail.
