Treatments will cover Wilton and Elk Grove areas of South Sacramento County

The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District announced today that aerial treatment for adult mosquitoes that may carry the potentially fatal West Nile virus is scheduled for two consecutive nights beginning Tuesday, August 23 from approximately 8:00 pm to midnight over portions of Elk Grove and Wilton, the two areas of concern in South Sacramento.

“Our surveillance efforts indicate high infection rates in these areas,” said David Brown District Manager. “Aerial spraying in addition to the ongoing ground treatments is necessary to reduce adult mosquito populations, interrupt the virus transmission cycle and to protect public health” said Brown.

During the past few weeks, the District has been closely monitoring these two hot spots where many infected dead birds and mosquito samples have tested positive for the disease. Approximately 32,500 acres will be treated with Evergreen 60-6, an insecticide registered for use in mosquito control with the Environmental Protection Agency. This is the same pyrethrin based product that has previously been used in other aerial applications by the District

The two areas that will be treated include 21,700 acres in the Elk Grove area from Mack Rd. to Elk grove Blvd and from I-5 to Waterman Rd. In Wilton, 10,800 acres will be treated. The area is roughly from Cosumnes River to Walmort Rd. Please see the attached map and refer to the website for exact treatment locations. While attempts are made to notify the public, the District may postpone or cancel a scheduled application due to unfavorable weather conditions or other reasons.

While most of the WNV activity has been centered in South Sacramento, all residents should remain vigilant because virus activity has also been detected in other areas of Sacramento County. Fortunately, no human cases have been reported in our area, however statewide, a total of 12 human cases have been confirmed.

When will this madness end? 7 years of spraying has proven that aeiral pesticide spraying is NOT effective in contolling WNV!! You are more likely to get very sick and even disabled form the pesticides used, even though they SYCMVC will tell you these poisons are safe, why do people believe them? When will the people of Elk Grove rise up against these yearly poisionings, wake up to the fact it does NOT work. Davis was able to stop the sparyings and so could we if enough people in Elk Grove studied the long term ill effects including neurological damage that can mimic MS, Parkinsons and many other neurological diseases! This city has to wake up, rise up and stop this madness on humans, children, pets and the eco-system. For more accurate information about how many counties across the U.S. including Washington DC has outlawed such sprayings read up on it people! Visit reliable sites on the truth at stopwestnilesprayingnow.org and nospray.org..get the facts and do something so our citizens of Elk Grove NEVER have to live through another aeiral spraying again! Study the sites, make calls to people/organizations that can help! Our home values are in the toilet now, the sprayings will make them fall further, no one wants to live in the ONLY county that is spraying pesticides over our rooftops yearly!
