For people not from Detroit, the night before Halloween is just that - the night before Halloween.

For Detroiters, October 30 is Devil's Night. In years gone by, it was the night to soap windows, teepee trees, place the proverbial bag of flaming dog dong on a porch and generally be mischievous. Unfortunately that grew to an all-out annual torching of the city.

But go back in time, 1938 to be exact, and Orson Welles pulled the biggest Devil's Night prank ever - he fooled the entire country into believing Earth was being invaded by Martians. Mind you this was in the days before the Internet, Twitter and the 24-hour news cycle.

So as we have done for several years, we present Orson Welles 1938 radio broadcast of The Mercury Theatre's War of the Worlds
