On Friday afternoon, Elk Grove Mayor Steve Detrick and Vice Mayor Jim Cooper presented a check for $12,000 to the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation.
The donation was made as a result of the the Second Annual fittest of Elk Grove Contest. This years event was organized by Elk Grove resident and professional water skier Brian Detrick.
This years event, which was held at the Elk Grove High School football stadium drew 51 athletic competitors and over 400 spectators.
"I wanted to give back to my community by helping boys and girls that do not have the means and opportunities that I was fortunate to grow up with," Detrick said. "My goal for this event was to raise $10,000 for the Elk Grove Youth Sports Foundation."
The funds will provide over 100 scholarships for underprivileged youth in our community.
